As newly appointed Vice President of Impact & Engagement, Alyssa Stewart will strengthen the link between United Way’s impact work and partnerships and its regional engagement activities.

“People who care about their community do it in two ways—by investing charitable dollars, and by getting personally involved in the work,” said Stewart. “By more closely connecting those two activities, United Way supporters get the full benefit of driving positive change in ways that are meaningful to them.”

Stewart, who previously served as Vice President of Strategy & Engagement, joined United Way BCKR in 2012 as a member of the Community Impact team, later becoming Director of Strategy & Engagement. Her new role will focus on staff and volunteer efforts targeting programs, partnerships and investments that advance United Way’s long-term goals in Education, Financial Stability, Health and Basic Needs. She also leads staff driving volunteer and community engagement strategies, and she oversees organizational processes and procedures.

Prior to UWBCKR, Alyssa worked for the W.E. Upjohn Institute as a manager within their Michigan Works! PATH Program in Kalamazoo and St. Joseph Counties. She oversaw a regional staff of twenty and was charged with connecting individuals receiving welfare with barrier removal support, job coaching and ultimately—meaningful employment.

In addition to her work at United Way, Alyssa also serves as an Advisory Council Member for the Josh Whitfield Memorial Athletic Fund.

Alyssa holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Albion College and a Masters of Public Administration – Nonprofit Leadership from Western Michigan University. Alyssa is a native of Kalamazoo and resides there with her husband and two children.
